Veteran/Military Appreciation Day on Sept. 15

Veteran/Military Appreciation Day on Sept. 15

The Kona Farm Fair has designated Saturday, Sept. 15, as Veteran and Military Appreciation Day. From noon-4 p.m., the West Hawaii Veterans Cemetery Development and Expansion Association, state Department of Labor Veterans’ Employment and Training Services and the state Office of Veterans Services will host a Veteran and Military Appreciation Day and Job Fair at the Old Kona Airport Pavilion.

All veterans and military personnel from across the island are invited, with their families, to this free event. The opening ceremonies to the day’s activities will start at noon with the American Legion Riders roaring in, presentation of colors, music by the Honokaa High School Jazz Band, a drill team demonstration and a guest speaker.

Booths hosted by military-related support and charitable organizations will be on hand to provide information for veterans, active duty military, Hawaii National Guard and Hawaii Reserve folks and their families.

“The event will also host a job fair for veterans and military with employers from across the island recruiting as well as professionals to assist in resume writing and job interview tips,” said John Grogan, president of the veterans cemetery group. “This event is the time for all veterans and military from Hawaii Island to come together and be recognized for our dedication and service.”

“It’s nice to know we have not been forgotten,” said Grogan. For more information, please contact him at 326-2309. Donations are welcome.
